My Fave Day of the Year!

SERIOUSLY??? Where did the time go?? I can't believe Cookie is now 7!!! Her b-day was actually early last month... yes, I know, no need to remind me how up-to-date I am with blogging... (sigh)...

But, as I was saying... Time goes by too fast sometimes!! Thank friggin goodness for phone cameras! I can capture all the moments as much as I want!! =)

Cookie was with her dad the morning of her b-day... made me sad that I couldn't wake with her, what can ya do? But (!!) I got to spend some time with her after school! Sent her a birthday wish in the morning (by text)...

Found out later that she hadn't gotten it before school =( even though I had sent it before school began... boo...

I remember when her dad and I were still setting up our parenting schedule--he suggested that her b-day be spent with one parent every other year... um, NO WAY, JOSE!!!! Are you kidding me?? THIS. IS. THE. DAY. I. MET. HER!!! NO WAY was I going to miss seeing her on her b-day every single year! Well... up until the time she'll be grown and will prefer to hang out w/ her friends... but, until then, I will be seeing her every year no matter what!

After all the presents I bought for Christmas, I made a deliberate note to watch and keep track of what I was getting for her since I have such a BAD habit of excusing the quantity off because it's her b-day/holiday/whatever day and I just have the tendency to get most, if not everything, she asks for.

I'm making a very conscious effort to limit my spending on material items. After our trip to Thailand and numerous junk travel emails, I'm reminded everyday (literally) by my inbox of ALL the places I'd love for us to see and experience! I'd rather our monies be put toward those memories/experiences/excursions rather than something that eventually finds its way to Goodwill. This is also a good move since it'll teach Sophia by example of conscious spending--knowing what we want out of life and knowing where to direct our resources.

Before I get off track (like I normally do), I gave Sophia little compared to what I initially planned; and, honestly, it felt wrong! It felt like I was depriving her. Thinking about it now, I'm just shaking my head because, logically, it's silly for me to feel that way since anyone would be able to tell just by walking into her room that she is far from deprived; but, emotionally, it feels like I'm not doing enough... go figure! It must be that parent guilt that most get, eh? I need to keep it in check!

Anyways... Eli and I got her mainly MLP (for those of you who aren't current on the terminology, it's My Little Pony) themed items. It is cute to see her so excited for these kinds of little things. I kind of remember being like that... and I definitely remember MLP--they were a fad when I was growing up to. But I don't remember it lasting with me for that long. I just remember being so excited to get my very own MLP to brush its hair and whatnot; and then remember thinking, "hmm, that's it, huh?" Come to think of it, after that, I didn't care much for chachkies and steered away from little toys. Makes sense that I never had the desire to have a collection of anything, haha. I'm hoping that Sophia will feel the same way. She doesn't even play with 3/4 of the toys she has. And I'm always coming across a part of a set here and another piece over there... what's the point??

Anyhow... onto some photos!

After some time together, it was time for her to go greet her Papa and Nana at the airport!

And along she went in her new glittery pink sneaker wedges =)
